Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll was written in the middle of composing his great Ring Cycle. It is laden with personal and artistic significance. This before-and-after program offers an infectious anti-Wagnerian post-war gem, five mini-dramas that anticipate, and – among life’s great ironies – one of the great Jewish heirs to the legacy of this famously anti-Semitic composer at his most impassioned.
Three complete Wagner Ring Cycles run from May 29 to June 26 at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. |
